Which one of these budget Android smartphones should you buy in the market right now?

Redmi has introduced its new entry-level smartphone in the Indian market this week called the Redmi A1. The A-series seems to be focused on giving consumers a clean software experience, with the use of the Android 12 Go Edition which can easily run on 2GB of RAM. The entry-level market has become rather stale, with most of the focus moving towards the sub-Rs 15,000 segment. Redmi A1 looks to change that perception and give first-time smartphone users a viable choice to consider.

But Redmi A1 is not alone in this mission, as you also have the Realme C33 and the Infinix Smart 6 HD vying for the buyer’s attention with a similar focus on affordability. So, which one of these is worth buying in the current market? Here is our comparison that will give you the answer.

The Redmi A1 has been launched with a single storage option. The phone’s sole variant with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage is priced at Rs 6,499.

Realme C33 has two models available, 3GB + 32GB for Rs 8,999 and the 4GB + 64GB variant costs you Rs 9,999.

The Infinix Smart 6 HD comes to India with a single storage option. The phone has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It is priced at Rs 6,799

Redmi A1 doesn’t give you the impression of a budget device with its build quality. The device gets a textured leather finish, and a waterdrop notch placed at the top of the display.

Realme C33 opts for a glossy and a glittery touch to its finishing. Make no mistake, the panel is made of plastic and this glitter does not make it look premium, especially when you are holding the device in your hand. Granted, it is not a fingerprint magnet, but still the looks will divide opinions.

Infinix Smart 6 HD has picked a unique touch for its design. One side of the back panel has a textured finish, and the other half is smooth. The matte finish also makes it feel solid in the hand and durable which lets you prevent fingerprint smudges.

Redmi A1 comes with a 6.52-inch LCD display that gives you HD+ resolution and it supports the standard 60Hz refresh rate. The display gets a waterdrop notch.

Realme C33 sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display with support for 120Hz touch sampling rate but the screen refresh rate is the standard 60Hz here as well.

Infinix Smart 6 HD comes with a 6.6-inch TFT LCD display and also offers HD+ resolution with the regular 60Hz refresh rate. So, as you can see, there is very little to separate these phones based on their display size and quality.

Redmi A1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core chipset which gets paired with 2GB RAM and offered with 32GB of internal storage, which is further expandable. This phone runs Android 12 (Go Edition) out of the box which promises a clean user experience and support for lightweight apps.

Realme is using a Unisoc T612 processor to power this device. You get it with 3GB and 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage, further expanded up to 1TB using the dedicated card slot. Realme C33 is running on the Android 12-based Realme S UI.

Infinix Smart 6 HD also has the quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 chipset along with 2GB of RAM. There is 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 512GB using the microSD card slot. The Smart 6 HD also runs Android Go Edition but version 11 which has a layer of XOS 7.6 on top of the OS.

Redmi A1 comes with a dual-camera setup at the back that consists of an 8MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, the A1 has a 5MP front camera.

Realme C33 comes with a dual rear camera setup with the 50MP as the main sensor and a 2MP depth camera. The phone gets a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

The Smart 6 HD has a single 8MP rear camera, and for selfies, the phone comes with a 5MP front camera.

Redmi A1 packs a 5000 mAh battery that supports 10W charging speed and you can charge it via a microUSB port.

Realme C33 gets a 5,000mAh battery unit that also charges at 10W speed using the microUSB port.

The Infinix Smart 6 HD also features a 5000 mAh battery but with an even slower 5W charging speed via a micro-USB port.

Redmi A1 is an entry-level phone that runs on the Android Go Edition, which tells you the focus from the brand. For the first time smartphone users, this could be a good and practical way to start their journey, but others will not be keen to use this device. As for the Realme C33 and the Infinix Smart 6 HD, the focus is more or less the same, but if it purely comes down to the pricing, Redmi A1 gives you the better value out of the three.
