Riot Games has announced that it is increasing the prices of League of Legends' RP and Teamfight Tactics' TFT Coins premium currencies next month.
Riot Games has announced League of Legends RP and Teamfight Tactics TFT Coins are getting price increases this year. RP and TFT Coins are used to buy cosmetics for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, respectively. The premium currencies can only be purchased with real money and can be used to obtain both Champions and Champion skins, for League of Legends, or Tacticians and arena skins for Teamfight Tactics.
While League of Legends' Champions can also be unlocked using the game’s free currency, Blue Essence, it takes a long time to earn enough of it to buy the game’s more expensive options. The BE or RP price of LoL Champions depends on both how long it's been since their release and how many Champions have been released since. Because of this, those wanting to get their hands on the game’s latest Champions, such as League of Legends’ newest champion Bel'Veth, soon after they become available will be forced to purchase and spend RP to obtain them.

In a new blog post, Riot Games (via comicbook) revealed both RP and TFT Coin prices will increase in most regions starting on August 19, 2022. The League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics studio attributed the increase to "worldwide inflation, currency fluctuations, maintaining fair prices between and within regions, consistency across our products, and other associated cost increases." According to the price increase chart Riot published, some RP denominations will have their respective price increased while others will maintain the same price but will offer fewer RP. Riot also added regions under Tencent will be handling the increases in other ways while those under Garena won’t have any price increases at the moment.
Before the price increases take effect, Riot is running a double bonus RP and TFT Coins promotion until July 31, 2022, to give League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics players a chance to purchase more of the premium currencies at the current price. Players can take advantage of the deal to save up for future content, like the next $130 LoL Prestige skin, especially since Riot previously announced it will no longer release the list of Prestige skins it plans to introduce during the year.
With the prices of so many things increasing all over the world, it was only a matter of time before it would also affect premium video game currencies like League of Legends’ RP and Teamfight Tactics’ TFT Coins. Hopefully, Riot Games will consider bringing the prices down again in the future, keeping the game more affordable for its player base.
