BMW have given their six-cylinder K1600 touring motorcycle line a much needed revamp for 2022. BMW upgraded a whole variety of things on their touring range, such as:
The K16, BMW’s most famous luxury touring motorcycle, was initially unveiled in 2011, and it instantly impressed with its incredibly smooth 160bhp performance engine. Thanks to ESA dampers and adaptive lights, the bike features a seamless high-tech look that raised the touring bike technology bar significantly.

Despite various updates to both the GT and GTL (Like in 2017 when Dynamic ESA became standard and optional reverse gear was added to the bike), their spec (particularly its part-LCD dash) appeared to be getting increasingly antiquated.
However, for 2022, all four versions have been considerably enhanced in the BMW K1600 range. Thanks to Euro5, the remarkable transverse six engines have received many internal upgrades. Surprisingly, while peak horsepower remains at 160bhp, peak torque has increased by 9lb. ft from 129 to 133 lb. ft.
The K16’s Dynamic ESA system, which allows for multiple suspension settings at the push of a button and is semi-active, is also improved. The ‘Next Generation’ technology now also corrects for loading on its own.
All-LED lighting is now the newest generation LEDs all-around, with an updated ‘Adaptive’ system that not only adjusts the headlight by +/−2 degrees when turning corners but also changes pitch as you accelerate and brake.
The K16’s audio system, (which is standard on the GTL and Grand America but an optional extra on the GT and B), has been updated as well. This allows you to connect your smartphone using Bluetooth and the BMW app. It also features a phone compartment with a USB-C charging point.
The most welcome new feature on the BMW K1600 range, in my opinion, is the massive, new 10.25-inch colour TFT dashboard that has just been introduced on the boxer-powered R1800B and Transcontinental models.
It’s controlled by the familiar BMW menu button and a scroll wheel, and it shows a variety of features and gives you access to your satnav. Unlike previous BM screens, it has the benefit of a split-screen option that lets you view your satnav while also seeing other displays!
The B, costing from £20,215 to £20,395 (GT), £21,920 (GTL) and £24,410 (Grand America), is available immediately.
