Small and stylish crossovers: Chery Tiggo 2 Pro vs. Kia Stonic | Zigwheels

With a bunch of small crossovers in the market, it's almost difficult for a model to standout exterior-wise. But that seems to be not the case with Chery with its spiffy Tiggo 2 Pro and Kia with its spunky Stonic.

Chery is proud of the Tiggo 2 Pro's "European-inspired design." This design starts with the car's "starburst" grille which is flanked by slim LED daytime running lights. The Tiggo 2 Pro's sport SUV-inspired touches make the look more rugged, such as black body cladding and roof rails. At the rear integrated chrome-tipped dual tailpipes housed within a silver diffuser, LED tail lights, and a rear spoiler underscore the SUV's upmarket intent.

Kia boasts that the Stonic packs "design that's iconic." Well, the Stonic is indeed eye-catching with Kia's signature “tiger nose” grille, sleek projector headlamps, and LED daytime running lamps that comprise the front end. Elsewhere around the Stonic, a rear spoiler garnish, and two-tone body colors — like this vibrant yellow-over-black – further accentuate the car's fun and youthful look.

The 2022 Tiggo 2 Pro and Stonic also boast cabins that are equally as stylish as their exteriors.

Part of the Tiggo 2 Pro's stylish interior accoutrements are the black faux leather and fabric that wraps most the cabin. Elegant single stitching on the seats, and silver trim on the doors, console, and leather steering wheel further lend to the interior classiness.

The Stonic's predominately black interior features a dashboard layout with a clean look. Either in the cockpit or rear passenger area, the Stonic promises ample head and knee space for passengers. The fabric seats should also prove to be hard-wearing while looking the part.

Taking center stage inside the Tiggo 2 Pro is what Chery claims as the "biggest-in-class" nine-inch touchscreen four-speaker infotainment system. This system boasts Bluetooth, Mirror Link, QDLink, and Apple CarPlay and USB connectivity, and four speakers.

As for the Stonic, its cabin is also equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen audio display with Apple CarPlay support and Android Auto integration that's linked to four speakers.

Meanwhile, these stylish crossovers offer more practicality with various nifty features. The Tiggo 2 Pro's tailgate features remote opening, the headlights height adjustment, all four-windows a one-touch-down function, and the flat-bottom steering wheel a set of multi-function buttons.

The Stonic's rear seats come with a folding function to extend the 325 liters of cargo space. The car's multi-function buttons on the tiller allow the driver to tune music as he or she carry loads in the crossover.

Moving on to the tech specs, the Tiggo 2 Pro uses a 1.5-liter Euro 5-compliant gasoline engine (106hp, 140Nm of torque) for propulsion. This engine is coupled with a nine-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) to ensure fuel-efficient mileage figures.

The Stonic is powered by a 1.4-liter dual CVVT petrol engine that generates maximum power output of 100ps and peak torque of 132Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic shifter.

For easier maneuvering and safer parking, the Stonic is equipped with a rearview camera and rear sensors. Reversing camera with dynamic guidelines and reversing sensors are found in the Tiggo 2 Pro, too, but with an added cruise control.

Now, being upscale version of the Tiggo 2, the entry-level model in the Chery's local lineup the Tiggo 2 Pro is available with all the trimmings. On the other hand, the Stonic 1.4 EX represents the fully loaded version of Kia's small crossover contender.
