Samsung's XCover6 Pro rugged smartphone isn't due to arrive until July but a leak has revealed key specifications and images of the upcoming device.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro has been leaked prior to its launch, revealing its key specifications and images. The XCover series is Samsung's line of rugged smartphones designed for frontline workers such as those in retail, healthcare, and construction. Some common features of the XCover series include dust and water resistance, shock resistance, increased touch sensitivity for use with gloves, and support for push-to-talk.

Samsung isn't the only brand that makes rugged smartphones. There are several Chinese brands with plenty of offerings in the rugged smartphone category. Some of them even boast features not available on Samsung's phones such as infrared and thermal cameras. As with many Chinese phones, only a few of them are available outside China. However, there are other options for the international market other than Samsung. In 2021, Nokia and Motorola made their entry into the rugged smartphone segment with the launch of the Nokia XR20 and Motorola Defy, respectively. The former is available in the U.S. while the latter is sold in Europe and the UK.

Official renders of the Galaxy XCover6 Pro shared by Evan Blass (@evleaks) show the phone will have a reinforced body to absorb shocks from drops. Samsung will release the phone in black and it will sport red accents around the rear cameras and buttons. The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro will also have IP68 dust and water resistance which means it can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Furthermore, it will also be MIL-STD-810H certified.

In addition to the images, Blass has also shared the specifications of the Galaxy XCover6 Pro. The phone will have a 6.6-inch FHD+ TFT display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is a much bigger screen than the 6.3-inch one on the Galaxy XCover Pro and the 5.3-inch display of the Galaxy XCover 5. The screen, which has a V-shaped notch, is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, the same type used for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. For the first time, the Galaxy XCover series will have 5G support, thanks to an unnamed 6nm octa-core processor that is paired with 6GB of RAM. The phone will have just 128GB of storage but a microSD card slot will allow users to add up to an additional 1TB of storage.

Samsung has also upgraded the cameras on the phone. The primary camera on the back is a 50MP sensor and it is paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Sitting inside the notch on the display is a 13MP selfie camera. The Galaxy XCover6 Pro will be available in single SIM and dual SIM variants with support for eSIM depending on the market. It will also have NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E. Some models will also have a barometer. For biometrics, a fingerprint scanner is buried under the power button and there's support for face unlock too. In addition to the power button and volume keys, the phone has two programmable buttons – the XCover Key on the side and the Top Key at the top.

The spec sheet mentions Dolby Atmos support, and the images reveal a single speaker at the bottom and a headphone jack at the top. The Galaxy XCover6 Pro will have a removable 4,050mAh battery. It doesn't have wireless charging but it charges either via the USB-C port or the POGO pins at the bottom. Buyers will have to purchase a charger separately, whether it's a USB-C power adapter or a POGO charging dock. When it launches, it will run Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has confirmed the XCover6 Pro will be announced on July 13 alongside the Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro rugged tablet.
